Peddie Girls Tennis Balances Excellence with Joy

Winning with kindness defines a historic four-year run.

Fall 2025

With another successful season in the books, the varsity girls tennis team extended its remarkable four-year record to 62-3, cementing its place as a powerhouse. But for the 13 players on this year’s roster, the numbers tell only part of the story.

“It doesn’t feel historic. It just feels fun and exciting,” said Eloise Mendelson ’26, a doubles player who has been part of the team’s remarkable run since her sophomore year.

That sense of perspective defined this team as much as its winning record. Head Coach Brian Dubrule regularly reminded his players of three priorities: “Practice hard, play well and be nice. Not necessarily in that order.” Dubrule and Assistant Coach Alison Radigan employed that philosophy to cultivate a culture where excellence and kindness go hand in hand.

“We want to be known as the nice team,” Mendelson explained. “We want to be good, but above that, we should be kind.”

Co-Captain Brielle Quaye ’26 said the team’s closeness fueled their success. “I feel like we wouldn’t be as good as we are if we weren’t as close as we are,” she said. “We don’t want our friendship to only be connected to tennis, so we try to go out to eat together and do fun things aside from tennis.”

Dubrule agreed: “They’re just a bunch of nice girls. They hang out together outside of practice, which I think is really important.”

That bond showed up in a big way on the court. Last season, the team posted a perfect 21-0 record, earning Dubrule recognition as the Times of Trenton Girls Tennis Coach of the Year.

The seniors left a significant mark on the program. Quaye’s 89 career wins set a record under Dubrule’s 21-year tenure, while fellow Captain Elyssa Ting ’26 racked up 78 wins. Quaye, Ting and Saanvi Gudapati ’26 earned All-Prep and All-MAPL titles during their careers. Victoria Vahi ’26 posted a 53-8 record, and Mendelson finished at 48-11. Junior Sophie Wang ’27 has already amassed 38 wins, with another season still ahead.

For Quaye, the program was as much about the journey as the numbers. “Everyone tells us we’re one of the best teams on campus. That feels really good, but it’s definitely more about the journey,” she said.

As the 2025 season drew to a close, the team added another remarkable chapter to its story. On and off the court, they played with skill, heart and kindness, proving that being the “nice team” can be the greatest victory of all.
